OUR
MONTHLY ACTIVITY REPORT
NOVEMBER 2024
We served 245 people (66 children) and managed to get 145 off the streets! Of those, 74 went to shelters, and the rest to permanent destinations. Over the past 12 months, the numbers rise to 2,021 people served and 1,835 exits to positive housing destinations. Since we started working with the Homeless Trust in May 2021, we’ve served 4,171 people and helped 3,846 leave the streets. We currently have around 220 people living in our homes (22 houses) or in the hotel we use for migrants and families in transition. In the Veterans program, we served 163 veterans this month and were able to find housing for 9 of them. This month, we had two births in the maternity home! It’s almost full (we already have 9 moms!), so we’re looking to rent another house so we don’t have to turn anyone away. If anyone has a house for rent, please let us know. It could be in Miami or Broward, where we have volunteers from Mater eager to open one there! We also had 21 baptisms! A record! Special thanks to Ricardo, Laura, and Hortensia for organizing everything so well and mobilizing so many people. A big shout-out to Deacon Tony Perez, who never tires of baptizing, and to the Corpus Christi community, which always welcomes us with open doors! Lastly, we celebrated Thanksgiving with a party for 250 people. A huge thank-you to the Youth for the Homeless team... 👏👏👏👏 to Elena Castrillón!!! And Michelle Cuccia, who mobilized many people and resources to ensure nothing was missing, creating a multiplication of the loaves that is reaching biblical proportions! A thousand thanks!!! Also to Carlos Khubler, who, as always, secured the venue!!! It’s a wonderful tradition! Now Christmas is coming, and we have two teams working full steam to make sure no child is left without a gift or a party. This Friday, there’s a big party at the Children’s Museum organized by the Sereniti Foundation (thank you, Álvaro Rodas and Caro Montoya!) for the children of Hermanos and thousands in Colombia... I was surprised to learn that 70 kids from Hermanos will be attending!!! These are children from families we’ve helped! Incredible!! Next Saturday, there’s another big event organized by Toy Drive’n Events, also for all the children of the foundation! If you’d like to help, we are collecting cleaning supplies for the homes. Please contact Malena. We also need sponsors for various causes (paying daycare for newborns, sponsoring a mom or adult in the homes, helping with transportation, etc.). We need jobs for many of the Hermanos... anyone who can offer something is more than welcome—anything from dishwashing to boxing sparring. Everything helps. At the hotel, we currently have 20 rooms with 56 people! Let’s see who dares to bring breakfast or meals! Every little bit counts. Thank you so much! We can do this! 💪❤️💪❤️💪❤️
OCTOBER 2024
This month we served 318 people experiencing homelessness (including 69 children). Of those, we were able to provide "positive housing destinations" for 202. Among them, 118 went to shelters, 41 were able to rent a home (several in our houses and all with our help), 39 moved in with friends/family, and a total of 28 went to other cities where someone was waiting for them. Only 3 accepted to go to rehab. In the last 12 months, the total number served rises to 2,000 homeless individuals, with 1,805 securing a place to live! It's incredible how the numbers grow. Of the total we helped this year, 404 were children. Finally, since May 2021, when we started with the homeless trust, we have assisted 4,043 people, helping 3,708 find a place to live. We currently have 218 people under our housing programs: 162 in 22 houses and 56 in hotels. In the Veterans program, we are serving an additional 239 people with homeless prevention and rapid rehousing. It's a lot of people! The month was quite busy; we opened two houses thanks to a grant from the DDA (kudos to genius Manolo Reyes!). San Ernesto is already full, and Santa Cabrini (you have to see the movie!) is starting in November. With the hurricane agenda, we placed 63 people in shelters. We fully engaged in the campaign for life, organizing a rally that turned out amazing. Genius Eduardo Verastegui and everyone who participated touched our hearts, and now we can't stay silent. We are going all out for life. We had three births at the Maternity House, and with the baby born yesterday, we now have 5 newborns! A true blessing, and as soon as we fill the house, we will open another one. Our message is that if you are pregnant, we will help you. We fight for both lives. Abortion must be unthinkable, and we will achieve this. We are here to defend the dignity of people from conception until death. Without any exceptions. No one is worth less. Everyone counts. It is Jesus himself who awaits us among those who have the least. We will find him! Let's go, we can do it! ❤️💪❤️💪
SEPTEMBER 2024
This month, we served 235 people, of whom 143 went to positive housing destinations (75 to shelters, 1 to rehab, 4 to temporary housing, and 63 to permanent housing). The rest, we are still working with! Over the last 12 months, the total served has reached 1,947, with 1,757 success stories (800 to shelters, 18 to rehabs, 58 in temporary housing, and 881 to permanent housing). Our historical record adds up to 3,882 served and 3,556 success stories since May 1, 2021, when we started working with the Homeless Trust. The most beautiful part of the month was the baptisms of 15 brothers and sisters at Corpus Christi, which gives meaning to what we do every day. Seeing the face of Christ in the most needy! We continue renting houses, and today we received San Ernesto, which will soon have 9 tenants! Also, the DDA gave us a grant to strengthen the work we do downtown. This month, DeSantis' new law banning street camps begins, and everyone is worried about what will happen with the homeless. For us, it's a great opportunity to solve the problem once and for all. There are resources and a willingness for change. What’s missing is bringing the public and private sectors together to create the units needed to house people. There are fewer than 1,000 homeless people left in all of Miami-Dade and 600 in the city. If we organize, we can achieve this! We are looking for houses, multifamily units, and even a church to rent if anyone has something available. At the family hotel, we have 58 people, and it would be great to form teams to visit and make the stay more pleasant, especially for the children. Let's do this! ❤️ 💪 ❤️
AUGUST 2024
During the month, we served 243 people, of whom 138 had positive housing outcomes. Of these, we placed 58 in shelters, 38 were relocations (either for work in other areas or family reunifications), 3 went to rehabilitation centers (it’s so hard to get them to say yes!), and the rest to our homes or their own apartments with government programs. We still have many families in hotels... there are 50 people... If anyone feels moved to help, it would be greatly appreciated to organize a visit, plan a breakfast, etc. (call Deasy to arrange at +1 (786) 694-0010). We offer community service hours! The big news of the month was... 1. First, the sad news: this month, three brothers who lived in our homes passed away. May God hold them in His glory! Let's say a prayer for Ernesto Romero, René Felipe, and Henry Losada. It's part of life, and despite the sadness, we were fortunate to walk with them and give them dignity. (Today we will hold a mass for them at St. Agnes at 7 pm). 2. The first baby was born in the pregnant women's home. Little Allan. A chubby divine baby and a great joy. 3. We had a visit from Father Angel, who stayed for a month, giving us advice and living in one of the houses he opened, "San Wilfredo." A truly great man 👏 👏 👏 👏 4. The city of Hialeah hired us to do outreach on the streets. This is a nice growth opportunity, so we’re going to knock on the doors of all the churches and places that help the homeless there to introduce ourselves. If anyone is attending a service in Hialeah, please let us know! 5. The DDA (Downtown Development Authority) approved a grant for us to open another house (we’re up to 22!) and continue serving the homeless in their area. 6. Regarding the houses, the follow-up with people is becoming more demanding as there are more and more! If anyone wants to help with a program of visits to the houses, you are more than welcome! You can call Leticia at +1 (305) 319-1238 to offer your help. 7. The houses generate a deficit, so any monetary help is also very welcome! The residents contribute to the rent, but the Foundation subsidizes a portion along with all the utility expenses, Wi-Fi, insurance, etc. Recurring donations greatly help us provide stability to the Shared Houses program, for which we DO NOT have government assistance. What’s coming up… On October 1st, a law by DeSantis comes into effect that no one can sleep on the streets anymore. The city is moving quickly to figure out how to manage this. It's complicated because there are no spaces in the shelters and rent prices remain high. We’re also being sent people from neighboring cities. But we will do something. Our houses are a good solution, so the idea is to keep growing. Beyond the rush, it's good that the time has come to solve this. And we will succeed. Let's do this!
JULY 2024
We served 256 homeless people on the streets and were able to provide positive housing destinations for 148! We also helped 15 veterans find a home. Since the event, we’ve accelerated our assistance, but there are still people on the streets. We are opening new homes (San Wilfredo will be operational this week with 5 spots) and during July, we filled 4 more homes with many people! But there is still more to do, and we need everyone’s help to make Miami the first city where everyone has a home. It’s possible! We have the inauguration of the house for pregnant women, and we already have some moms living there! We still have many people in the hotel, so if anyone is up for organizing a group to bring some cheer, it would be a great help. Once again, thank you for being a part of this and helping! Let's do this! ❤️ 💪 ❤️
JUNE 2024
The best month since we started! We began with all the momentum from the city during the Nights of Compassion! and served 335 homeless people. Of these, 236 went to positive housing destinations. 113 went to shelters, 6 to drug rehabilitation programs, 58 to reallocations with family or jobs, and 76 to our homes or we helped them rent on their own. We rented 4 houses and an efficiency this month, adding about 29 beds to our housing program. Thank you to everyone who accompanies us, supports us, and prays for the work! We are close to ensuring that no one in Miami is without a home. Let's do this! ❤️ 💪 ❤️ 💪 ❤️ 💪 ❤️
MAY 2024
Another month has passed, and here are the numbers… We served 272 homeless people (58 children) and were able to get 141 to positive housing destinations! A new record! In the last 12 months, we served 1,654 people, and 1,476 reached positive housing destinations, including 345 children! During May, we started a census of those living on the streets to conduct a Massive Love Attack in the coming weeks! Today is the mayor’s party (big thanks to Francis Suárez! 👏 ), and with it, we’ll have resources to help a lot of people! We need many people to walk the streets and see if we can speak with everyone. We also need volunteers to help set up the new houses we are renting (on Monday, we’ll have one for 12 people), so you’re more than welcome to join! Next Friday, we’ll organize a big outing! We hope you can join us! We’re filming a documentary about this new adventure, so if you want to be on TV, don’t miss it. There are still 600 homeless people in the city, and with everyone’s help, we will achieve our goal. We still have many people in the hotel (around 41), so support is appreciated if anyone wants to provide breakfasts or meals and share some time. The young people from the seminary have joined this effort and will be going to the hotel twice a week! It’s a true blessing! On another note, the maternity home is close to opening, which is another great opportunity to help!Another month has passed, and here are the numbers… We served 272 homeless people (58 children) and were able to get 141 to positive housing destinations! APRIL 2024
Here are the numbers for the month… We served 262 homeless people (54 children), of whom 128 went to positive housing destinations! Over the last 12 months, the number rises to 1,589 served with 1,409 success stories! And this month marks 3 years since we started with the Homeless Trust, and since then, the numbers have jumped to 3,110 served (659 children) and 2,805 people with positive housing destinations! Big things are coming in May… We’re organizing Mayor Francis Suárez's gala (he’s amazing!), which is motivating us to double our efforts. Starting June 2nd (the gala is on the 1st), we’ll be hitting the streets as a community (we’ll organize) to help all the homeless in Miami with passion and compassion. There are about 600 left in the city, and the goal is to make Miami the first major city in the USA where everyone has a roof over their head. (Functional zero homelessness) Together, we’ll achieve this, and then we can move on to other things! We need to rent more houses to help with permanent solutions, so if you know of any, let us know! Regarding Hearts for Life, we’re still waiting for the construction of the house we rented to be completed, and then another big chapter will begin. Lastly, today and tomorrow is the play that Paff is doing for the brothers, acted by brothers and people with big hearts who help make this world a better place… if you can, don’t miss it! Let's do this! ❤️ 💪 ❤️
MARCH 2024
We served 266 people (55 children)… 131 people reached positive housing destinations… Over the past 12 months, we served 1,563 people (329 children) with 1,379 successfully reaching positive housing destinations! The number of people arriving from the border is decreasing significantly, and this is reflected in the statistics. During March, we finalized the agreement with Mater Filius and received a significant donation to start the first maternity home. Now, we need to rent a house in Miami-Dade, so if anyone has one to offer, please let us know! On another note, a religious order, the Servants of Jesus of Charity, providentially contacted us, and one of the nuns will be joining the project 100%—you’ll meet her soon! We’re going to name it Hearts for Life, and below, you can see the logo brilliantly designed by Felipe Verswyvel (he also did the one for Hermanos, he’s a genius!). We also received a donation from the DDA to open another house (they’re funding the start-up) and to help them more effectively in the downtown area... A couple of events are also coming up: 1) Next week, on the 11th, we’d love for those who can to join us for dinner with Father Ángel, and 2) Francis Suárez, the mayor of Miami, called us—he’s eager to host a big gala for Brothers of the Street to raise the money so we can, in a great Love Attack, get all the homeless off the streets. There are only 1,000 left! (A bit fewer in the city itself). On the other hand, nearly three million people live in Miami-Dade, or nearly 500k in the City of Miami... so we should be able to do it!! We’ll see how we organize it, but as my grandmother used to say, “It’s easier with money!” So, let’s see how the great Francis surprises us—he’s a good friend and a great communicator of the work. As always, a huge thank you to everyone who, in one way or another, supports the cause! Let's do this! ❤️ 💪 ❤️ 💪 ❤️ 💪 ❤️
FEBRUARY 2024
We served 341 people (79 children)… 153 people reached positive housing destinations… Over the past 12 months, we served 1,568 people (327 children) with 1,335 successfully reaching positive housing destinations! We continue to grow with new projects! In February, we signed an agreement with Mater Filius Miami to open the first home for pregnant mothers and fully engage in the fight for life. We want to be the first option for mothers at risk of abortion due to lack of resources. Wherever they are, we will run to ensure that abortion is not the option. We are going to create a separate division to focus 100% on this effort and seek resources that will be dedicated solely to it. We need to rent a house in Miami-Dade, so if anyone has one to offer, please let us know! As always, a huge thank you to everyone for your support, and for those who can help financially, we appreciate it. The cost of renting houses has gone up, and some are no longer self-sustaining (we can't raise the rents in the same proportion), and we do not receive any subsidies for housing. Thank you very much to everyone, and let's do this! ❤️ 💪 ❤️
JANUARY 2023
The first month has passed, and here are the results… We served 294 homeless people, 61 of whom are children. Of these, 154 were taken off the streets, and around 100 more were placed in a hotel. Over the past 12 months, we served 1,487 people, including 317 children, and 1,297 reached positive housing destinations. We continue to grow as an organization thanks to the programs we are managing. One special program we have focuses on veterans, serving 150 people so far, and we’ve already helped 164 with rent, 38 with rapid rehousing, and several more with utilities and partial rent assistance. In other news, the city of Hialeah invited us to take care of the homeless, and we submitted a proposal that we plan to carry out. We are still receiving migrants, and we have approximately 100 people in hotels. Mayor Suárez chose us to potentially help with a gala. The DDA gave us a grant of $75k to open two new houses to continue providing a home to those who are without one. If anyone has a place to rent, please let us know! Let's do this! ❤️ 💪 ❤️
DECEMBER 2024
The month and the year have ended… here are the numbers… We served 212 people this month, including 59 children. Of these, we were able to take 125 off the streets. Throughout 2023, we served a total of 1,375 people, including 317 children, and 1,236 reached positive housing destinations. By comparison, in 2022, we served 1,031 homeless people (241 minors) and took 881 people off the streets. We currently have 131 people living in the houses and 19 rooms in the hotel with 61 people. We also grew as an organization, increasing our staff from 5 to 15 who manage cases, thanks to the grants we worked on with the government. We do not receive any subsidies for the houses, which creates a significant deficit that we cover through donations and events. To everyone, thank you so much for your help and for being part of the love revolution! Big things are coming! Let's do this! ❤️ 💪 ❤️ 💪 ❤️ 💪 ❤️
NOVEMBER 2023
We served 205 people (including 49 children), and 123 reached positive housing destinations! In the past 12 months, the total number served rises to 1,373, with 1,213 taken to positive housing destinations (now more than 100 per month!). Since we started the program with the Homeless Trust (5/2021), the total number served has risen to 2,343, with 2,038 reaching positive housing destinations… quite a jump. These numbers do not include veterans served or the families in the hotel (today we have 12 rooms with 51 people), which are managed through other programs.
